Boy or Girl?

In three and a half weeks we get to find out whether we're having a boy or a girl (I have several posts titled "Confessions of a Recovering Control Freak" - are you really surprised that I'm finding out the gender?).  I'm very much enjoying the anticipation, but am also looking forward to knowing whether we'll be naming our baby Luke Skywalker or Princess Leia (since I had to look up the spelling, you can probably guess that that was Zach's idea).  Until then, we have a little baby Chewbacca.

But just for fun I've looked up different ways of determining on your own whether you're having a boy or a girl. There are a million wacky ways from how you're carrying the baby to which way the Drano goes down the sink (I'm not kidding).  So I thought I would test these to see if they actually work.  So to start it off:

Old Wives Tale 1:  If the baby's heartbeat is over 140 beats/minute, you are having a girl.  Lower than 140 indicates a boy.

Gender:  At my last OB appointment, the Doppler reading was about 160.  So I am having a girl.

Old Wives Tale 2:  Ancient Chinese Birth Charts take the month of conception and your age at conception to determine the gender.  They convert your age to your Chinese Lunar age and the month to the Chinese Lunar month and the place where these values meet reveals your baby's gender!

Gender:  For us that means February (Chinese Lunar month June) and 25 (Lunar age 28), so according to the charts, we're having a girl!  But wait!  Just for fun, I tried the Chinese Gender Predictor on another website, and this time was told that I'm having a boy!  Uh-oh!

So far that's 2-1 in favor of a girl.  I'll continue with these tests over the next few weeks.  If you've been pregnant, were any of these tests accurate?

    What about how you're carrying: out in front, like a basketball = boy and spread more sprawling = girl :) I love your writing and I love you!! Mom

When Words Don't Come

Sometimes words just cannot describe what you are feeling.  Sometimes they just don't capture a moment well-enough.  Not for lack of desire or trying, but sometimes the words just don't come.  Two weeks ago I wanted to sit down and blog about the most wonderful thing that had happened.  Two weeks ago I couldn't wait to share the good news.  And for two weeks, the words haven't come. Confessions of a Control Freak

I used to be a control freak. Some of you who know me are probably scoffing and saying, “used to?”, but seriously, I am evolving. If there was ever a case for evolution, I would make a good study. Having a baby around definitely makes you rethink your priorities. I have been noticing it in the little things, and I thought I'd share a few examples: Control Freak Me: I have to take a shower!
